Say what you will about Mayor Emanuel but his comedy stylings are an equal mix of cynicism and taunting. If he thought ending furlough days were a “morale-killer” what does eliminating sick pay, reducing holidays, creating tiered pay grades and drastically reducing paychecks do to “morale” besides prove that he doesn't give a damn about their ”morale” or well-being!
How is it possible for the people in the City Hall press corps sit there while this angry marmoset of a Mayor tells them that we’ve got to cut back city services because we have a deficit while giving private corporations a $20 million dollar tax break? Has he figured out that the combined reasoning capacity of the entire press corps is not capable of powering a ding-danged light bulb? I understand if he thinks they’re trapped in a closet stupid or knows that the owners of the Sun-Times and the Tribune are so in line with his plans to open new markets that they’ll let him lie to their faces but why do we have to let them lie to us?
We can frick-frackin’ read and Rahm’s not an idiot; devoid of empathy sure, driven by a lust for power absolutely but stupid, naw, that’s not him, he can probably read minds and summon demons to keep in touch with his spiritual masters. We know there’s $820 million in TIF funds that are NEVER in the budget. We know that “Silent” Joe Ferguson over at the Inspector General’s Office has found over $500 million in just the M/WBE program and we know that the mess the 9-11 Call Center is. How this man place a budget on the table that cuts police services, increases emergency response times and slices gang intervention programming while shifting the tax burden FURTHER on to the middle and working classes and say he’s making the city safer! Safer for whom; GE Financial, CME Group, For a Better Chicago, World Business Chicago the Civic Federation and Satan because it sure as hell isn’t us!
I’m tired of being the sacrifice that these prick-rat-bastards are sharing. When the Mayor says things like how he simply wants to treat public sector workers like their private-sector counterparts he has to know that we know what that means! Private-sector unions have lost so many workplace protections and jobs over the past thirty years that they are about one step below a eunuch when it comes to power. Between outsourcing, de-industrialization and thirty years of union-busting we’ve reached the point where the National Relations Labor Board is rarely on the side of labor damn it. We have Wal-Marts in Chicago that don’t pay a living wage or allow their people to get enough hours to even get their Obamacare minimum insurance, coming to your future in 2013! Do you understand that this budget should pretty quickly lead to Chicago's public sector workers shopping at those Wal-Marts because that's where they will be able to afford to shop but where will they live and how will they send their kids to college?
This budget isn’t a running joke it’s a love letter to callousness that ALEC inspired governors like Scott Walker and John Kasich! In this budget Emanuel will privatize benefits management, the water management department call center and custodial services at city buildings, including libraries. He will also outsource custodial services at O'Hare and Midway airports. In return you and I are going to get longer 9-11 response times, less curb, sewer, sidewalk and gutter repairs, less police services, less fire services, more kids in classrooms and less mental health and homeless services. ALL of these things will COST us more later somewhere else in the larger costs of what goes wrong when those investments are NOT made! IF Emanuel was a two-digit IQ mental midget like George W. Bush or John Stossel then this would just be a puppet doing as he’s told but he’s not that guy. He’s the guy who’s gonna make a killing off of making most of us victims of what he has in mind. I don’t know about you but any Alderman who doesn’t get their panties in a bunch over this budget should be dragged into the well of the City Council chambers and taunted like a Republican at a Single Payer rally. We’re not idiots and we shouldn’t let our Mayor’s budget act like we are.
